The Village of LaGrange Park, incorporated in 1892, is known as the Village of Roses - a theme which is blended into a variety of annual events including a spring rose s how. The incorporation of the community to a Village was not, however, based on the desire of the farming families to change from a rural neighborhood to an urban community . But rather, it was rooted in the desire to maintain the tranquility of the region. It seems that an enterprising young resident was bootlegging to increase his income. Th is entrepreneurial spirit was not appreciated by his neighbors in the unincorporated and dry district of Proviso Township. The rowdy behavior of his customers caused the ci tizens to seek incorporation. The first action of the newly incorporated community was to prohibit the sale of liquor. One hundred years later, the Village is still home to a spirited group of community-minded residents.
